Tokyo, Japan – WAITINGROOM is pleased to announce Naho KAWABE Solo Exhibition, The Children of Icarus, from March 11th to April 9th, 2017 (opening reception is on March 10th) and it is the first time to present the artist’s solo exhibition at our gallery. KAWABE lives and works both in Japan and Germany and it is the first time to show her work in three years in Japan. She creates video, mixed media sculpture, and installation work in the theme of transforming the materials into something else. In this exhibition, KAWABE puts her starting point into the issues surround the nuclear energy and radioactive substance in this society of the current times, while thinking of the time axis far outside the human capability of perception, and showcases all brand new works of installation pieces composed of light and shadow, drawings made out of charcoal, photography, paper cut sculptures and many more.

Born in 1976 in Fukuoka, currently lives and works in Germany and Japan. She graduated from Musashino Art University in 1999 and University of Fine Arts of Hamburg with MFA degree in 2006. Her recent exhibitions include a solo exhibition “delikatelinien” (Ermekeilkaserne, Bonn, Germany, 2016), group exhibition “The Material of Memory” (Frise, Hamburg, Germany, 2016), “Lifestyle” (Westwerk, Hamburg, German, 2016), group exhibition, ”IN SEARCH OF CRITICAL IMAGINATION” (Fukuoka Art Museum, Fukuoka, 2014), solo exhibition “piece, piece (with Jane Brucker)” (Port Gallery T, Osaka, 2014), solo exhibition “Observer Effect” (Galerie du Tableau, Marseille, France, 2013), solo exhibition “Shiseido Art Egg / Open Secret” (Shiseido Gallery, Tokyo, 2011) and many others both in Japan and abroad.
