exonemo is an artist duo consisting of Kensuke Sembo and Yae Akaiwa. They started their activities on the Internet in 1996, expanded their activities to real space installations, performances, and event organization in 2000, and since 2015, they have been based in New York City. In this exhibition, the post-it works that were stolen from the popular “Stealable Art Exhibition” (same gallery, Tokyo) in 2020 will be exhibited as ex nemo’s (exonemo x stealer o) works, with an episode in which the stolen works had been returned to exonemo after something was added by the person who stole them. It would be a great opportunity to witness this rare work that was stolen quickly at the exhibition in 2020. Recent exhibitions include a solo exhibition “CONNECT THE RANDOM DOTS” (WAITINGROOM, Tokyo) in 2021, a group exhibition “I am here by WAITINGROOM” (CADAN YURAKUCHO, Tokyo), a group exhibition “Aichi Triennale 2019” (Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art, Aichi), 2018 group exhibition “Hello World: Towards the Post-Human Era” (Art Tower Mito, Ibaraki), etc. In 2020, his solo exhibition “exonemo UN-DEAD-LINK [Reconnection to Internet Art]” (Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, Tokyo) won the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s New Artist Award in the Art Division of the Art Encouragement Prize for 2020 (the 71st Art Encouragement Prize). In 2021, they was selected as the third artist for the Obayashi Foundation’s grant program “Visions of the City – Obayashi Foundation Research Program”.
